Process Safety Manager

Katie Mulligan is a Process Safety Manager at Dow, currently supporting Research & Development facilities across North America and Latin America.  In this role, she develops and applies technology, management systems, and hazard assessment tools designed to protect people, property, and the environment by controlling the risks of unplanned events. Prior to joining Process Safety, Katie spent 10 years in Dow’s Reactive Chemicals Capability, where she used her expertise for Reactive Chemicals hazard recognition, evaluation and utilized calorimetric and flammability techniques to assess and quantify reactivity hazards. She aids in identifying and managing risks, as well as investigating the root causes of complex incidents. Katie is passionate about safety, innovation and communication. She has developed novel methods to couple hazard calorimetry to online analytical detection and serves as the lead for a global Dow R&D initiative to prevent lab-scale safety incidents. 

Katie is a regular volunteer for American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) Process Safety Division and GCPS. She’s a member of the Process Safety Management Mentoring Committee and the Loss Prevention Symposium Committee, for which she is serving as 2025 LPS Symposium Chair. Katie is the current chair for the Process Safety Division IDEAL Committee and was recently elected Process Safety Division Director. She is committed to upholding AICHE’s IDEAL principles through outreach, education, and participating in programs that advance women and minority representation in the chemical sciences.
