Laura Moreno has over a decade of experience working on issues related to waste, with a focus on food. For almost 5 years, Laura worked as an environmental scientist at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Pacific Southwest Region as the regional lead working on organic waste management. She then completed an interdisciplinary doctorate at UC Berkeley in Energy and Resources to better understand how much and why food is discarded in U.S. households. During her doctoral work, she collaborated with the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), worked with and for local governments, and participated in a National Academy of Sciences consensus study on wasted food at the consumer level. Currently, Laura works in the Policy Office of CalRecycle, California’s solid waste agency, as a Senior Environmental Scientist working broadly on issues related to waste management.
