Leonard Demoranville

Leonard Demoranville, PhD, is an associate professor of chemistry at Centre College in Danville, KY, where his research focuses on chromatographic methods to analyze bourbon (Email: leonard.demoranville@centre.edu). He teaches an upper-level elective course “Chemistry of Beer, Wine, and Bourbon,” as well as the AIChE webinar “The Chemistry of Bourbon: The ‘Spirit’ of Molecules.” He has published work related to chemical education and received the 2018 Kentucky Academy of Science’s Excellence in Science Education and Outreach award. Previously, Demoranville was a post-doctoral researcher at the National Institute of Standards and Technology, where he studied trace analysis of illicit drugs using ion mobility spectrometry. He earned his BS from Eastern Nazarene College and PhD from the Univ. of Maryland, College Park, both in chemistry. Much of his graduate research was completed at the Naval Research Laboratory’s Accelerator Mass Spectrometry Laboratory.
