Mark Shiflett
Mark Shiflett, P.E. is a Technical Fellow at DuPont in the Central Research and Development division at the Experimental Station in Wilmington, Delaware. He has a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from North Carolina State University and a M.S. and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Delaware. He has worked on a variety of DuPont programs and most recently been leading a team of research scientists studying new applications using ionic liquids.
Dr. Shiflett is an inventor on 41 granted U.S. patents and author of 70 publications. He has invented and commercialized three refrigerant mixtures for the DuPont Company which has generated revenues in excess of one billion dollars. He received the prestigious DuPont Bolton Carothers Innovative Science award for these inventions in 2005. He also received the “Heroes of Chemistry” award from the American Chemical Society in 2006 and the University of Delaware Presidential Citation in 2007 for this work. He is an adjunct professor at the University of Delaware in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering where he teaches Junior and Senior lab.
