Matthew S. Walters, P.E., PhD, is a senior engineer in the Thermal Sciences Practice at Exponent (Email: mwalters@exponent.com). His background is in chemical engineering with specific expertise in the areas of separations, process modeling, and process control. He has applied his expertise to a variety of pollution mitigation systems, including post-combustion carbon capture, gas processing, combustion gas cleanup, and liquid-liquid extraction of contaminants from silicone polymers. He leverages his knowledge of process systems to provide incident investigation and process safety consulting services, as well as proactive technical evaluations of novel systems and processes. Walters is a member of AIChE, where he participates in the Center for Chemical Process Safety Committee for Abnormal Situation Management. He is also a licensed professional engineer in Illinois and a Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator. He received an MS and a PhD in chemical engineering from the Univ. of Texas at Austin. He also earned a BS in both chemistry and chemical engineering from Purdue Univ.
