Michael Norato

Dr. Michael Norato is currently the Director of Operations and Processes and the Acting Director of Major Constructions and Modifications in the Office of the Chief Engineer in the DOE Office of Environmental Management.

Dr. Norato has almost 20 years of experience in the areas of chemical and physical separations, waste management, new reactor licensing, materials decommissioning, nuclear safety, and environmental management and restoration. 

Dr. Norato has served at Savannah River National Laboratory, Savannah River Site Defense Waste Processing Facility and Saltstone Production Facility. He also spent over nine years with the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission, where he served in the Office of Nuclear Material Safety and Safeguards and the Office of New Reactors. He was lead chemical safety reviewer for the license application for the Mixed Oxide Fuel Fabrication Facility (MFFF) at the Savannah River Site, and he led the Component Performance, Integrity and Testing Branch, Contract Management Branch, and the Materials Decommissioning Branch.

Dr. Norato holds a BS, MS and PhD in Chemical Engineering from Syracuse University.
