Dr. Ming-Hsu Chen received his Ph.D. degree (2015) in agricultural and biological engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign, USA, under the supervision of Professor Vijay Singh. He joined the School of Chemical and Biomedical Engineering at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, as assistant professor in January 2019. Prior to joining NTU, Dr. Chen was a postdoctoral researcher at the Whistler Center for Carbohydrate Research at Purdue University, USA, where he and his colleagues, under the supervision of Professor Stephen R. Lindemann, worked on identifying dietary fiber-consuming microbial consortia and building up microbial interaction models. Dr. Chen’s research group at NTU focuses on integrating biological and engineering principles into bioprocess procedures to improve food quality and production. This research team is interested in creating values for agricultural by-products, optimizing the fermentation process, manufacturing bioactive carbohydrates, and elucidating substrate-specific microbial communities.
