Olivier Rolland has been actively involved in the environmental and business transition towards the bioeconomy. As Global Director, Strategic Initiatives in Sustainability R&I at L'Oréal, he is providing science-based directions and solutions to further L’Oréal minimizing its indirect impacts (i.e. scope 3) on the environment through innovation and development of new technologies.
For 15 years, he led strategies to develop new value chains and sustainable products based on industrial biotechnology and chemistry. Starting with biomaterials at Michelin, he contributed also to the development of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) at TotalÉnergie and Amyris, then at Boeing. More recently as the managing director of TWB, he grew this public/private institute that transitions leading-edge R&D into pre-industrial development projects and startups into a sustainable service business.
Over his career, he has developed a strong ability to work with different research and industrialization partners at international level with a business perspective. Given his experience in the development of sustainable products, he was appointed in 2022 by the French government to be Ambassador for sustainable materials and biosourced products for the France 2030 national investment program.
