VP Operations & Field development
TOTAL E&P Americas

Philippe Rondy is a civil engineer graduated from Ecole Nationale Superieure des Arts & Industries and University of Colorado, and has over 25 years of international experience in the O&G industry.

His petroleum career began with McDermott-ETPM, working on offshore platforms construction in West Africa and pipelines installation in North Sea, as well as the French Institute of Petroleum, where he developed new drilling technologies and tools.

In 1995, he joined Total E&P drilling department, in charge of advanced technology engineering, providing operational expertise to affiliates in state-of-the-art, non-routine, challenging drilling & completion design and well execution in Lybia, Thailand, Columbia, Venezuela and Scotland.

In 1998, he was seconded to the Operator of the North Caspian Sea project in Kazakhstan and took an active part in the Kashagan discovery, the largest over these last 30 years. Confronted to the particular challenges of deep, pre-salt, high pressure and sour wells, combined with an extreme operating environment with shallow waters and winter ice in a nature preserve of world importance, he followed this unique megaproject until the sanction of its 1st phase.

In 2005, he was appointed Strategy & Petroleum Architecture Manager of Total E&P Norge AS in Stavanger (Norway), responsible for development engineering, projects validation, portfolio optimisation, trade and acquisitions.

In 2008, he was seconded to Shtokman Development AG (JV between Gazprom, Total & Statoil) in Moscow, Russia, as Deputy VP Project for the giant Shtokman gas & condensate phase 1 field development, another megaproject, located 550km offshore Barents Sea, with subsea wells, disconnectable floating production unit, LNG plant... in a remote arctic environment.

Back in Total headquarters in Paris in 2011, he was appointed as the Head of Development Engineering for “Northern Europe & Continental Europe-Central Asia”.

His current position since 2014 is TOTAL E&P Americas Division Technical Director, based in Houston TX, supervising North and South America activities, an average production of +/-250kboepd and project investments of $4.2billion just for the year 2015 - with a wide portfolio ranging from heavy oil developments in Canada & Venezuela, deep offshore US & Brazil, conventional gas fields developments in Bolivia & offshore Tierra del Fuego Argentina, and unconventional in USA & onshore Argentina.
