Dr. Radenka Maric serves as the Vice President for Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship across all UConn campuses, including UConn Health, and is responsible for overseeing the University’s $260+ million annual research enterprise. She is CT Clean Energy Fund Professor of Sustainable Energy in the Departments of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering and Materials Science & Engineering, and works to develop novel materials for fuel cells, batteries, and biosensors to improve durability, performance, and life prognosis. In addition to her duties as Vice President for Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Dr. Maric also maintains an active research program, focusing on innovations for the fuel cell and energy industry. As an internationally recognized expert in sustainable energy researcher, Maric regularly works with fellow faculty, students at all levels, national and global colleagues, as well as partners in industry to advance innovative technologies and processes. Dr. Maric is a leading scientist with experience in academia, industry, national labs, and federal agencies in the US and abroad. While serving as Acting Director of Science and Technology at the Canadian National Research Council’s Institute for Fuel Cell Innovation, Dr. Maric managed 12 national and international projects with budgets over $50 million, and oversaw the development of a breakthrough thin film deposition technology, which enables the production of next-generation semiconductor and fuel cell materials with significantly reduced cost and enhanced performance. While working abroad in Japan, Dr. Maric managed 48 scientists to develop cutting-edge research at Toyota Motors related to catalyst development and led several international research teams on multiyear projects valued in the tens of millions. Dr. Maric is also the recipient of countless awards and honors from the international research community for both her preeminence in her field and dedication to educating future generations of scientists. Some of these honors include election into the Connecticut Academy of Science and Engineering in 2012, and being named the 2015 Woman of Innovation in the Research category by the Connecticut Technology Council. In late 2019, Dr. Maric was named a Fellow of both the National Academy of Inventors (NAI) and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). Dr. Maric works tirelessly in both her role as a senior leader at UConn and in her lab, with over 300 articles in refereed journals and conference proceedings, two books under preparation, 21 book chapters or invited review articles in major journals, seven patents issued, 11 published patent disclosures, and over $40 million in competitive research funding during her career.
