Dr. Agustina holds a PhD in Human Nutrition from Wageningen University, The Netherlands through a fellowship from the International Nutrition Foundation/Ellison Medical Foundation USA. She finished her Master (MSc) degree program in Nutrition at Universitas Indonesia (was in collaboration with SEAMEO-TROPMED and Faculty of Medicine), with a fellowship from the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) (2000). She obtained her MD from the Faculty of Medicine, Gadjah Mada University (1997). Since year 2000, she has been a lecturer for the post-graduate study program in nutrition at the Department of Nutrition in collaboration with SEAMEO Regional Center for Community Nutrition Universitas Indonesia.

Currently, her position is a Chair of Human Nutrition Research Center of the Indonesian Medical Education and Research Institute and Head for Doctorate Study Program - Research Coordinator Department of Nutrition, Faculty of Medicine Universitas Indonesia. She formerly served as a Deputy Director Resource Management, of SEAMEO RECFON (Regional Center for Food and Nutrition). In these positions, she has experiences in leading teams of researchers with diverse backgrounds to focus on a core research question. Her expertise is in the area of child health and nutrition, especially in the field of Gut Health and Dietary Modulation of Intestinal Infection with Probiotics, Prebiotics and Micronutrient (eg. calcium. Iron and zinc). She has extensive experiences in conducting several research projects and clinical trials in Indonesia. She carried out a large scale intervention trial with enrollment screening of 4000 children, with approximately 500 being enrolled and followed-up. This included coordination of more than 100 co-workers including research assistants, study physicians, supervisors, fieldworkers, database and logistic personnel, nutritionists and local women volunteers. The study produced high quality data with excellent compliance rates and has productively published papers in high impact international journals.

She also conducted recent study on intake, obesity and gut inflammation involving 1000 children (n=186 being followed up) in Jakarta. She also initiates Cohort project in Indonesia on the fetal programming, dietary intake and microbiota in Indonesian pregnant mothers, and studies on dietary intakes and metabolic outcomes in children, adolescents and women in several provinces in Indonesia.

She received an “International Award” from the North American Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (NASPGHAN) at the 2012 World Congress in Taipei, and the Rector of the Universitas Indonesia. She was a Featured Fellow of the International Nutrition Foundation, Boston, MA, USA and was selected as a finalist from 176 researchers in Indonesia for the Best Research of the Ristek-Kalbe Science Award in 2014.

Dr Agustina also received a fellowship from the Higher Education Network Ring Initiative to attend the summer course program at the Harvard School of Public Health, Harvard University, Boston, MA, USA, and in this program she published an additional paper concerning maternal empowerment with experts from Harvard and John Hopkins University.

She involved as a representative of Indonesia to attend the meeting of CODEX Committee on Nutrition and Foods for Special Dietary Used in Denpasar Bali. She is the first author for the Handbook of Nutrition in Food Industry (1st ed 2009; 2nd ed 2014). She involves as a member of Expert Committee on Functional Food (eg Probiotics) and Food for special Dietary uses since 2002 at the National Agency of Drug and Food Control and Ministry of Health Republic of Indonesia. She actively involves in the Medical Nutrition Association (PDGMI).
