Robert D. Allen, PhD, is a Senior Research Fellow at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) (Email: robert.allen@nrel.gov, Website: www.nrel.gov/research/staff/robert-allen.html). Prior to this role, he was Department Head of Polymer Science & Technology at the IBM Almaden Research Center in San Jose, CA, where he spent 35 years as an industrial polymer chemist and research leader. Allen has a PhD in polymer chemistry from Virginia Tech and is a member of the National Academy of Engineering.
