Roman Jerala is head of the Department of synthetic biology and immunology at the National institute of chemistry in Ljubljana, Slovenia. His group works on introducing new types of protein and gene regulation for mammalian cells, translational medicine, particularly cancer immunotherapy and gene therapy and coiled-coil protein origami as a new type of designed protein folds,. He is member of the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO), member of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts and a recipient of an ERC Advanced Grant.
