Professor Rui L. Reis, PhD, DSc, Hon. Causa MD, FBSE, FTERM, member of the NAE, is the Vice-President for R&D of University of Minho, Portugal. His is the founder and the Director of the 3B’s Research Group and of the ICVS/3B´s Associate Laboratory of UMinho. He is the CEO of the European Institute of Excellence on Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine, the Global President of the Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine International Society (TERMIS) and the Editor-in-chief of the Journal of Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine, Wiley-Blackwell. Rui L. Reis is a Full Professor of Tissue Engineering, Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cells and the Director of the PhD program on Tissue Engineering, Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cells of U. Minho.
He is a recognized World expert, with almost a 1000 ISI listed published works, and around 35 patents, in the development of biomaterials from natural origin polymers and their use in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, and in controlled drug delivery, in many cases in combination with different types of stem cells. He was granted several major international awards for research and innovation, has spin-out different companies, and runs presently research projects exceeding 35 MEuros, including the most prestigious ERC (European Research Council) Advanced Grant.
