Dr. Swarup is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences NUS and Deputy Director of NUS Environmental Research Institute and Deputy Research Director at the Singapore Centre on Environmental Life Science Engineering. His group works on integrated systems biology based understanding of fundamental processes driven by plants and microbes in human-impacted environments and in agriculture from gene to ecosystem levels. Based on more than 15 years of work, Prof. Swarup’s team has developed a research framework to integrate effects of environmental stressors with functional responses of urban freshwater systems, tropical peatlands and urban agriculture. This has led to science-based solutions for improving management of these freshwater, peatland and urban agriculture systems.
