Dr. Kalinga is responsible for the implementation and management of the research and programs of the Synthetic Biology Center at MIT. Shiva brings experience in research operations, technology development, and strategic planning. He works closely with staff and faculty in implementing technology driven systems and synthetic biology projects for a variety of health-related applications.
Dr. Kalinga holds a MS in microbiology from Bangalore University and a PhD in biochemistry from ETH Zurich. His graduate research was supported by the Swiss NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program, and he completed a Merck Postdoctoral Fellowship from Computational and Systems Biology at MIT in the Department of Biological Engineering. In addition, Dr. Kalinga has pursued studies at MIT in Administration, Leadership development, Financial management, and Machine learning. He has also received an executive education certificate mini-MBA from Bentley University.
