Dr. Su Shiung Lam holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering from Cambridge University, and is currently a tenured Associate Professor and the Deputy Director of International Centre under the Office of Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and International) of Universiti Malaysia Terengganu. Lam serves a number of positions via his appointment as Visiting Professor of Henan Agricultural University (China), Associate Fellow of UK Higher Education Academy, and his affiliation as member of Applied Energy UNILAB: Conversion of Energy and Biochar from Biomass/Solid Waste (EB2W), and International Bioprocessing Association (IBA-IFIBiop).

He leads a research group working mainly on Chemical & Environmental Engineering, focusing on Hazardous Waste & Biomass Utilization, Thermal Process (Pyrolysis, Gasification, Microwave Heating), Clean Technology. He is active on research, development, optimization, and application of thermal technology in waste and biomass valorization, particularly on Pyrolysis & Microwave Technique, especially on its application in transforming waste & biomass materials into energy, green chemicals, or valued-added products applicable to industry and environment.

He has secured 22 research grants, both international and in Malaysia, publishing about 126 articles in journals, 2 articles recently published in Science in 2020, receiving a H-index of 28 and 2273 citations in Scopus, file patent and commercialize inventions from his research team. Lam currently serves as Associate Editor for Environmental Geochemistry and Health, Energy & Environment, Frontiers in Energy Research, and Environmental Advances, Editorial Board Member for Materials Science for Energy Technologies, and as Guest Editor of Journal of Hazardous Materials, Bioresource Technology, Environmental Pollution, and Environmental Research.
