Trent Northen, PhD, is a senior scientist at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL), and he is the Metabolomics Program Lead at the Joint Genome Institute (JGI) (Email: trnorthen@lbl.gov). He has pioneered EcoFAB and metabolomics technologies to understand metabolic exchanges between soil microbes, for which he has received numerous awards, including a Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) from President Obama. He received his BS in chemical engineering from the Univ. of California, Santa Barbara, and his PhD in biochemistry from Arizona State Univ.
