Uwe Hampel was born in Zwickau, Germany, in 1968. He received the Diploma degree in computer science from Technische Universität Dresden, Germany, in 1993, the M.Sc. degree in digital systems engineering from Heriot–Watt University, Edinburgh, U.K., and the Ph.D. and Habilitation degrees from Technische Universität Dresden, in 1998 and 2005, respectively.,Since 2006, he has been the Head of the Experimental Thermal Fluid Dynamics Division, Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf, Germany. Since 2012, he has been a Professor of imaging techniques for energy and process engineering with Technische Universität Dresden. His research interests include flow measurement techniques, process tomography, and multiphase flow. He was awarded the title of Doctor Honoris Causa with the University of Liège, in 2019.
