Professor Wang Yulan is a professor of Metabolomics at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine (LKCMedicine) as well as Director of Singapore Phenome Centre (SPC) and an honorary appointment with the School of Public Health at Imperial College London. Prof. Wang obtained her PhD in Physical Chemistry in 1997 from University of East Anglia, UK. After her PhD, Prof Wang joined the Institute of Food Research and John Innes Center, UK, where she spent 1998 to 2001 on postdoctoral research, applying her Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) skills in food sciences. From 2001 to 2007, Prof Wang worked at Imperial College London, in the field of metabonomics as research fellow. In 2007, she was recruited as part of China’s “100 talents program” by the Chinese Academy of Science and became a professor at the Wuhan Institute of Physics and Mathematics. She used NMR and Liquid Chromatography – Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS) spectroscopic techniques with computational modelling techniques to investigate host-microbiome interactions, the metabolic effects of infectious diseases, nano-drug toxicity, cancer and nutritional interventions.
