Attend a Workshop on Career Planning for Prospective Faculty at the 2017 AIChE Annual Meeting

The Education Division of AIChE is putting on a workshop on Career Planning for Prospective Faculty right before the Meet the Faculty Candidate Poster Session at the 2017 AIChE Annual Meeting in Minneapolis. Join them to focus on:

Preparing prospective faculty for the search process and successful transition into an academic position. It will offer advice on identifying suitable career goals and specific objectives, and developing a plan to achieve them. Special attention will be devoted to establishing a funded research program. Elements of the career plan will include:

  • Navigating the Job Search Process (research and teaching plans, interviewing, start-up packages)
  • Establishing a Research Program (obtaining funding, Career Award preparation, problem identification & selection, contacting funding sources, network development)
  • Understanding the University Environment (tenure & promotion, service activities, sabbaticals, reward structure, mentoring expectations)
  • Managing Your Time (goal setting & priorities, stress reduction, good habits)

The workshop will take place during a 3-hour period on Sunday, prior to the Meet the Faculty Candidate Poster. Through group activities, sharing of experiences, and advice from experienced faculty the basis for developing an academic career plan will be established.
