Gilda Barabino Named Dean of the CCNY’s Grove School of Engineering

Gilda Barabino has been named Dean of the City College of New York’s Grove School of Engineering. She joined City College in Sept. 2013 after serving as associate chair for graduate studies and professor of biomedical engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology and Emory Univ. She joined Georgia Tech in 2007 after an 18-year career at Northeastern Univ. She also served as Georgia Tech’s first vice provost for academic diversity. Barabino’s research areas include sickle cell disease, cellular and tissue engineering, and diversity in science and engineering. She earned a BS in chemistry from Xavier Univ. and a PhD in chemical engineering from Rice Univ. She is the current president of the Biomedical Engineering Society.
