Young Professionals visiting Houston, Texas in April have a lot to look forward to at the upcoming 2016 Spring Meeting and 12th Global Congress on Process Safety. In addition to the Young Professionals's Mixer on Sunday, April 10th, the AIChE Young Professionals Committee is offering opportunities for undergraduates, graduates, and professionals in academia and industry to collaborate, learn together and exchange experiences and ideas through 35 sponsored and co-sponsored sessions.
Monday April 11th:
Start your conference week with the 2016 AIChE Spring Meeting and 12th GCPS AGILE Award Keynote Address, followed by a session focused on Pilot Plants and Scaling Up.
YPs can focus their attention to process safety in the afternoon and attend a keynote talk by Allan McDonald where he will discuss challenges and obstacles faced during his time as the head of the Space Shuttle Solid Rocket Booster Program or a Tutorial in Process Safety held by CCPS. Process simulation, improvement and optimization sessions targeted to the oil and gas industries continue throughout the early afternoon.
In the third session of the day starting at 3:30pm, check out our panel discussion on Working with Millennials. This session will discuss communication and thought differences between generations and how to overcome challenges when working across these age gaps.
Tuesday April 12th:
During the morning session YPs can learn about Sustainable Technology Developments for Mid-stream Gas Development, co-sponsored by Topical 6 of the Fuels and Petrochemicals Division.
Industry Perspectives of Big Data Analytics sessions span the two afternoon time slots where strategies, challenges and successes for companies to analyze data from multiple sources are discussed. Co-sponsored with PSM2 Forum, a session titled The Day PSM Hit Home: From a Young Engineers Perspective will be an engaging talk where young professionals recount examples of process safety moments in their roles.
Wednesday April 13th:
In a session launched by the Environmental Division, YPs can learn about Environmental Issues and Controls in the industry. Tutorials in Process Safety lead by LPS and PPSS finish out the morning sessions.
YPs can attend vendors sessions focused on Big Data, distillation and absorption equipment tutorials, and general fundamentals in ethylene technology during the afternoon. A highlight that is not to be missed that is co-sponsored by multiple groups of the GCPS is titled Case Histories and Lessons Learned. Invited talks will discuss real industry events that shaped the process industry and what takeaways came from these incidents.
