Most undergrads who were active with their AIChE student chapters look back on their time with friends and peers with fondness and longing. Many wonder to themselves – “If only there was a way to recreate those relationships with other chemical engineers, at work and beyond, around me” – but assume it was but a fleeting experience.
To those operating under this condition we have a fantastic revelation: starting an AIChE local section is easy and any member can do it!
Once you have formed a committee of interested friends, all you have to do is:
- Identify boundaries
- Solicit more members (contact information of members in your area available is from AIChE)
- Complete some administrative goals for official approval
And you’re there!
Local Section boundaries are not restricted – it can be as small as the campus of your graduate school or as large as half your state or country (though a radius of 50 miles is recommended).
The goal of local sections is to steward benefits of AIChE to those in your area – but sections are also a fluid representation of their area and take on their own life from the active members; holding events of interest and value as they see fit.
To first see if there's a section already existing in your area, check out our more list of more than 85 active sections and message your local leadership directly. So what do you say? Will you cultivate AIChE in your area? More details and a webinar overview are available here.
