10B 2025 Programming Coordinator - CAST 2022 Election Results

Congratulations to Dr. Helen Durand, the newly elected 10B 2025 Programming Coordinator. Dr. Durand is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science at Wayne State University.  She received her B.S. in Chemical Engineering from UCLA, and upon graduation joined the Materials & Processes Engineering Department as an engineer at Aerojet Rocketdyne for two and a half years.  She earned her M.S. in Chemical Engineering from UCLA in 2014 and her Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from UCLA in 2017, and subsequently started at Wayne State.  She received the Air Force Office of Scientific Research Young Investigator award, and her work has also received support from the National Science Foundation including the NSF CAREER award.  She received a Faculty Research Excellence Award and an Excellence in Teaching Award within the College of Engineering at Wayne State University.  Dr. Durand's editorial roles have including serving as an Associate Editor for Control Engineering Practice and serving on the Editorial Board of Digital Chemical Engineering.  Her research interests are in the area of process systems engineering with a focus on process control design and theory, with consideration for topics such as cybersecurity of control systems and the implementation of control on quantum computers.  Dr. Durand has been involved in CAST as a chair or co-chair since 2018.  She has also served in a number of roles for the Next-Gen Manufacturing Topical Conference at the AIChE Annual Meeting, including serving as the Area Chair for the Next-Gen Manufacturing sessions in 2020 and as the chair for that topical conference in 2021.
