Congratulations to Dr. Maria Papathanasiou, the newly elected 10E 2025 Programming Coordinator. Dr Papathanasiou is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Chemical Engineering, Imperial College London. She holds a PhD in Process Systems Engineering from the Department of Chemical Engineering at Imperial. Prior to her permanent appointment with Imperial, she was a Visiting Scholar at the Artie McFerrin Department of Chemical Engineering and the Energy Institute at Texas A&M University (2015-2016). Dr Papathanasiou leads the Life Science and Process Systems Engineering lab, focusing on the development of digital twins and control methodologies for process understanding, optimisation and automation. Applications include; personalised therapies, (bio-) pharmaceuticals food systems engineering. Dr Papathanasiou is a Senior Member of AIChE and she regularly serves as Reviewer & (co-) Chair for CAST Division sessions at the AIChE Annual Meeting. She has been appointed as the Interim Secretary for IChemE’s Computer Aided Process Engineering Special Interest Group and since 2022, she is the CAST Social Media Chair. Dr Papathanasiou has co-authored 35 full length and peer-reviewed papers and 3 book chapters. She has strong international representation to scientific and industrial conferences with over 40 oral presentations, including invited talks.
