Congratulations to Miguel A. Zamarripa Perez, the newly elected 10E 2026 Programming Coordinator.Miguel A. Zamarripa Perez (NETL) is a Principal Engineer at KeyLogic Systems supporting the NETL’s Process Systems Engineering Research Team (PSERT). At NETL, Miguel leads the Strategic Analysis (SA) research team supporting PSERT. He is Co-PI on different projects across the Strategic Systems Analysis & Engineering directorate. His main areas of expertise are chemical engineering, operations research, process systems engineering, process synthesis, data science, machine-learning, and mathematical modeling & optimization. Miguel’s research focuses on mathematical modeling and optimization of advanced energy systems including power plants, post-combustion carbon capture systems, integrated energy systems (e.g., power, H2, energy storage, etc.), and optimization of oil & gas produced waters networks. As the SA team lead, he coordinates across different national labs and universities, and technical leadership for development of open-source software, user support & education, and stakeholder engagement activities. Miguel has a B.S. from La Laguna Institute of Technology, M.Sc. from University of Nuevo Leon, and Ph.D. from Barcelona Tech (Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya), all in Chemical Engineering. After receiving his Ph.D. in 2013, Miguel continued gaining further experience as a postdoctoral research associate. First, with a two-year appointment with Prof. Ignacio Grossmann in the Center for Advanced Process Decision Making at Carnegie Mellon University, followed by a three-year appointment at the NETL’s Carbon Capture Simulation Initiative (2015-2018).
