The 2024 CRE division Early Career Investigator award, in honor of Dr. Maria Flytzani-Stephanopoulos, is awarded to Dr. Milad Abolhasani, Associate Professor and a University Faculty Scholar in the Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at NC State University.

After achieving his PhD from the University of Toronto, Dr. Abolhasani did postdoctoral work in chemical engineering at MIT. He joined the faculty at NC State University in 2016 where his research has focused on studies of flow chemistry strategies tailored towards accelerated development and manufacturing of advanced functional materials and molecules using autonomous robotic experimentation. Dr. Abolhasani is the recipient of several other awards and recognitions, including NSF CAREER Award, Dreyfus Foundation Award for Machine Learning in Chemical Sciences & Engineering, and AIChE 35 Under 35, has 73 publications since joining NC State, and 11 patents or patent applications. Additional information about Dr. Abolhasani can be found via his LinkedIn profile.

This award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the science and/or technology of catalysis and chemical reaction engineering through publications or practice. A plaque and $500 will be presented to Dr. Abolhasani at the CRE division dinner during the AIChE Annual Meeting in San Diego. A technical symposium will be held in his honor during the AIChE 2025 Annual Meeting.
