Trade war hurts LNG exports, but Asia set to gain amid lower shipping costs

The number of US liquefied natural gas cargoes bound for China plunged by about 20% to 24 last year, down from 30 in 2017, amid mounting trade tensions and China's tariffs on US LNG. US crude oil exports to China are also affected by the trade war, although crude oil volumes to Asia are expected to increase in the second quarter as freight rates fall and domestic demand wanes.

EIA: 64% of new power generation in 2019 will be wind, solar

Of the 24 gigawatts of new electric generation capacity coming to the nation's grid this year, 18% will be solar-based and 46% will come from wind, the Energy Information Administration says. More than half of the 8 gigawatts set to go offline will be from coal-fired plants.

Trump's deregulatory agenda hits shutdown-related delays

The Trump administration's plans to roll back the Clean Power Plan, Waters of the US rule and other Obama-era regulations are encountering delayed hearings and other postponements due to the ongoing partial government shutdown. "There's no doubt that keeping the government shut down for too much longer certainly puts at risk some of the things that they're trying to do," says Bracewell partner Jeff Holmstead.
