Dr. Dhaval Bhandari selected to receive 2025 Young Leader Award

[October 21, 2024] Dr. Dhaval Bhandari, Global Market Developer for Bioenergy, Low Carbon Solutions at ExxonMobil was selected to receive the Management Division 2025 Young Leader Award. The Awards Committee selected Dr. Bhandari as recognition for his outstanding leadership and contributions to the industry and management of technical talent during his tenure with General Electric (GE) and ExxonMobil. Dr. Bhandari has over 15 years of impactful contributions across multiple roles in the chemical and energy transition space.

He joined GE in 2010 and as a Principal Investigator, led technology programs to develop membranes for carbon-capture in collaboration with the US-Department of Energy (US-DOE). He joined ExxonMobil Research and Engineering in 2014 where he led teams to develop disruptive concepts for low-energy separations and process intensification for refining and petrochemical sectors. His strategic acumen as a Planning Advisor has been crucial for key ExxonMobil business affiliates, and the corporate office, supporting the company President in the annual company plan and technology spotlight reviews. His leadership in the development of next-generation chemical and basestock products has created significant business value. Currently, as a Global Market Developer he is leading unique opportunities to develop lower cost and scalable pathways to produce advanced Low Emission Fuels (LEFs) for decarbonization of the transportation sector.  

His scientific contribution includes 20+ patents/applications, 15+ international publications, 2 book chapters and multiple invited talks in advanced separations and reactor development. He is a recipient of the Inaugural Georgia Tech 40 under 40 Award in 2020 and the AIChE Separations Division’s FRI/Neil Yeoman Innovation Award in 2021 underscoring his industrial scientific and technological impact.

Dr. Bhandari holds a BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Mumbai, MBA from University of Texas at Austin McCombs School of Business, and a PhD in Chemical Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology. A Senior Member of AIChE, his work spans the Separations and Management divisions where he has led committees, organized sessions and symposia to mentor and professionally develop the next generation of engineers and scientists.
