The AIChE Nuclear Engineering Division has created two new student awards this year to recognize and encourage outstanding students to pursue careers in nuclear chemical engineering. The undergraduate competition was based on an essay contest open to current undergraduate students attending U.S. universities. The competition asked for students to write about a chemical engineering challenge relevant to the nuclear engineering field and explain its importance and impact. Jaron Wallace (pictured), metallurgical engineering junior from University of Utah, was the winner of this year's competition. Jaron was inspired from his internship working at TerraPower last summer to write an essay on development of large-scale manufacturing methods for molten salt reactor fuel salts. Jaron will receive a prize of $500 from the AIChE NED. This competition will be opened again for 2019 sometime in the first half of next year.
