Featured Speakers from Great Lakes Biomimicry and University of Akron

You’ll hear from Christine Hockman, Co-Director of Great Lakes Biomimicry (GLB), Dr. Adam Smith from The University of Akron, and Dr. Emily Kennedy from UA’s Biomimicry Research and Innovation Center. Over the last decade, GLB and UA have created a robust and globally-recognized biomimicry ecosystem right in your back yard.

Dr. Adam Smith will share about the design of low-cost spectrometers to monitor water quality with citizen scientists, which harness the concept of collective intelligence in biological systems, and his work with biomimetic membranes, used to study the molecular mechanisms of cell signaling and to develop novel biosensors.

Great Lakes Biomimicry is a non-profit in Cleveland that helps organizations learn from nature to accelerate sustainable innovation. The University of Akron is an internationally recognized leader in the rapidly growing field of biomimicry. Their Biomimicry Research and Innovation Center (BRIC) is dedicated to connecting scientists, engineers, designers and businesspeople to catalyze biomimicry-based innovation.
