Sam received his B.S. in Chemistry from the University of London, Ph.D. with Sam Grim at the University of Maryland, and a postdoctoral stint with Bruce King (Georgia). He joined Ethyl Chemical Co., in the early 90’s and stayed on with Albemarle when it was spun off from Ethyl in 1994. Sam had a distinguished career at Albemarle and has 75 patents from his work there, mostly on aluminoxanes and their important role in activating polymerization catalysts. He is also highly versed in Ziegler-Natta and metallocene polymerization catalysts and their industrial applications. Sam has received several Technical Awards at Albemarle for excellence in R&D and patent history. He has been very active in the local section serving as treasurer for the very successful 1998 Southwest Regional ACS meeting here in Baton Rouge, then as treasurer for the local section from 1999 to 2005. Sam has helped with the annual Super Science Saturday event at various levels, including organizing the Albemarle activity station for several years. Sam was local section Chair in 2006 and 2014, and continues to serve as Alternate Councilor. He is actively involved in Parkview Baptist Church and is quite the tennis aficionado and has worked with the YMCA and Highland Road Tennis Board to organize senior tennis teams and events.
Menu items include boudin chicken, fried fish, potato casserole, green beans, salad, bread, and blueberry white chocolate bread pudding. There will be a cash bar.
