As the world and the country try to go green, many are taking a fresh look at nuclear power because as non-emitting power source. Previous lectures have covered, how is power generated from a nuclear reaction, what is the process for splitting of the atom, why is the nuclear reaction different than conventional power generation and what are some of the proposed new designs for nuclear power plants. We will discuss the current state of nuclear developments and how nuclear power is being used to support global carbon reduction. There will be a discussion on world events and their impact on nuclear power. Along the way, we will reinforce the basic terminology and physics behind this electrical source. A short portion will delve into accidents that are analyzed for in reactor licensing. The lecture will end with an open forum for questions.
