Pi Day March 14th: We celebrate Pi Day every March 14th since that date has the notation of 03.14, and on that day we recognize how the many engineering disciplines use Pi in their work. For Chemical Engineering we will see how Pi is used to calculate vertical and horizontal cylindrical tank volumes as well as fluid dynamics of liquid flow in pipes.
Innovative Engineering March 24th: Equipment design and operations follow engineering fundamentals and guidelines to assure safety, energy efficiency, and environmental stewardship.
The guidelines provide general information to address the wide range of operating conditions. In many situations, past practice is accepted as normal operation, especially when close engineering review isn’t available.
This presentation will cover boiler, cooling, wastewater, and process examples that expand these guidelines through examples of innovative engineering.
