Chemical Process Safety as a field and as a discipline has gained wide acceptance as a vital and significant part of an overall Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Management System for chemical operations. After a brief look at some recent process safety incidents, we will examine the history and the origins of chemical process safety and its components as valuable and necessary tools in preventing process safety incidents. We will also lay the groundwork for a more detailed study of the individual components in the coming weeks.
