CLE AIChE March 26 (CSU) & April 4 (CWRU), 2025 Chemical Process Simulation Case Study Seminars

What will be reviewed in this brief period is what simulation software can and cannot do. "The Good the Bad, and the Ugly" is not necessarily a facetious title for what we will go over in the next hour or two. In brief, the seminar will cover: Steady-State problems; transient unsteady state problems and how to solve 1st order differential equations with a steady state simulator (and yes Ben has said to every class that he has had to use calculous in problem solving more than once); And how to solve constant volume problems with a steady state simulator (probably upsetting many thermodynamicists in the room) All the problems discussed in this seminar are problems that have actually occurred in the real word in the 59 years Ben has been plying the trade of a chemical engineer. So, a storyline may accompany the math. Mr. Horwitz is promoting students to bring their PC Simulation Workstations to the presentation so they may work in parallel with Mr. Horwitz during the simulation problem solving process as a learning experience.
