Topic:  "EM-101" An Introduction to the DOE Office of Environmental Management   
 

The mission of the US DOE's Office of Environmental Management (EM) is to complete the safe cleanup of the environmental legacy brought about from five decades of nuclear weapons development, production, and Government-sponsored nuclear energy research. This webinar will give a brief history of DOE-EM and the Nuclear Weapons Complex and an overview of EM clean-up operations. Cleanup operations include facility decontamination and decommissioning (D&D), tank waste disposition; transuranic and low level waste disposal; groundwater and soil remediation; and storage, treatment and disposal of DOE spent fuel and other special nuclear materials.  

Presenter: Michael Norato

Dr. Michael Norato is currently the Director of Operations and Processes and the Acting Director of Major Constructions and Modifications in the Office of the Chief Engineer in the DOE Office of Environmental Management.

Dr. Norato has almost 20 years of experience in the areas of chemical and physical separations, waste management, new reactor licensing, materials decommissioning, nuclear safety, and environmental management and restoration.
