TOPIC: Sulfur recovery fundamentals: The Modified Claus process

Sulfur compounds are plentiful in the Earth's crust and are frequently found in oil and gas production and refining. Dave will be talking about the source of sulfur compounds in the oil and gas industries, their extraction from fuels, and their conversion into pure liquid sulfur. He will also be covering the "sulfur block" of refineries and gas plants, as well as providing a detailed explanation of the modified Claus process for sulfur recovery.

SPEAKER: David Adams, Principal Technology, Inc.

After graduating from Texas A&M University in 1989 with a BS in Chemical Engineering, Dave has held various engineering positions in both large and small operating and engineering companies. Over the last 35 years, he has held key positions in process operations, project engineering, technology development, and project management in continuous and batch processes in the oil and gas, refining, and petrochemical industries. Dave held positions at Monsanto, OxyChem, and Bechtel before joining Principal Technology (PTI) in 2004. Dave has been the Manager of Process and Mechanical Engineering at PTI since 2007.

Dave is a critical member of the PTI team and is heavily focused on process industry solutions, including sulfur recovery, amine treating, and thermal oxidizers. Dave has served as PTI’s Sulfur Guru since 2011. Dave has published articles in AIChE conference proceedings and Hydrocarbon Processing Magazine. He has been an AIChE member for eighteen years and has served as Secretary and Director of the Dallas Local Section. Dave holds Professional Engineering Licenses in Texas, New Mexico, and Louisiana.
