Topic: The science and technology of one of the first nanomaterials: Carbon Black (1 PDH)
Production of nanomaterials has been around since 2000 B.C., although not recognized as such. Today there are a significant number of different nanomaterials being commercially produced. This talk will focus on one of the first: Carbon Black. While most people have never heard of this material, they take advantage of it every day of their lives whether it is using tires for transportation or using one of the many household products containing it. This talk will cover how Carbon Black is produced and also its remarkable properties in all types of products.
Speaker: Dr. Wesley Wampler, Vice President of R&D, Tokai Carbon CB
Dr. Wesley Wampler is the current President of the International Carbon Black Association of which he has been a member since 1995. He is also the Vice President of R&D with Tokai Carbon CB. He is a member of the American Chemical Society Rubber Division where he has presented numerous papers and chaired several symposiums. He is also a member of the American Society of Testing and Materials Committee D24 on Carbon Black where he has chaired several subcommittees. Dr. Wampler has also coauthored two chapters on Carbon Black in books dealing with its use in the rubber industry.
Wesley Wampler received a B.S degree in Chemistry and Biology from Tarleton State University in 1981, an M.S. degree in Organic Chemistry from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1987 and a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1995.
