Onn March 24, 2010, the Kansas City Section of AIChE presented a Special Award at the Greater Kansas City Science & Engineering fair to Jenna Baber, a Senior at West Platte High School. Her project was titled, “The Effects of the Concentration of Silver in a Solution as Well as Identifying Possible Methods to Remove Silver from a Solution on the Inhibition Zone Produced for Bacillus Lichen Forms.”
This project was determined by our panel of judges to be the project that that best exemplifies practical application of chemical engineering principles. This project also placed first place in the academic awards for her category, Senior Environmental Sciences/ Renewable Energy.
The judges were Arnold Harness of Burns & McDonnell, Appachu Kodira of SAFC Biosciences and Girish S. Kshirsagar of BE Aerospace, Inc. Arnold Harness of Burns & McDonnell presented the award.
The Greater Kansas City Science & Engineering Fair was held at Union Station form March 21-24. The awards ceremony was held at the Crown Center Exhibit Hall and was moderated by Susan Hiland, Anchor on WDAF Fox 4 News.
