The KC Local Section is finishing the 2018 Speaker Series: ChemE Comes to Life! Join us at Brio in June as we continue to explore the impact of chemical engineering on the living world around us. We'll hear from speakers who have brought together the worlds of chemical engineering and biology in order to improve our society and enrich our lives.
At our third and final meeting of the series, we'll hear about using biomass to produce fuels and chemicals from Dr. Lance Lobban, Professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of Oklahoma. Dr. Lobban's research focuses on catalysis and reaction engineering. Currently, he is investigating the thermochemical conversion of biomass into fuels and chemicals. The “refining” of biomass has analogies to refining of petroleum, but biomass is highly oxygenated and conversion to hydrocarbons requires new catalysts, reactors, and reaction conditions that differ greatly from those used in petroleum refining. We are excited to learn from him, and we hope to see you there!
