The Tennessee Valley Authority Bull Run Steam Plant was originally commissioned in 1967. At that time, it was the largest generator in the world in terms of volume of steam produced. This coal fired plant has taken measures in recent years to make every best effort to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, through additional and better scrubber technology.
Troy Hall will give a tour and overview of the Bull Run Steam Plant, highlighting its scrubber system and technologies. This tour requires good walking close-toed shoes (no heels). Some areas may not be accessible for people with mobility problems. This will involve going up and down stairs, approximately a 1/2 mile walk on uneven surface, and some dimly lit areas. TVA will provide hard hats, safety glasses, and ear plugs, with headcount - so please sign up on Eventbrite in time for an accurate headcount! The tour will meet at 5:30 p.m. in front of the main building, accessible through the visitor entry.
Dinner to follow at Calhoun's in Oak Ridge. Members pay for their own meal. Students - register in advance to have the local section cover your dinner!
