Every year, for almost 15 years, the Maryland Section of AIChE participates with other engineering societies in a program dedicated to introducing the idea of a career in engineering to students in First Grade through Twelfth Grade: The Maryland Engineering Challenges (MEC). The Maryland AIChE Section sponsors an engineering challenge for Middle School students, The Hovercraft Challenge. Yes, it is not really a chemical engineering-related challenge, but what is important is it brings Chemical Engineers to the notice of students and it is an opportunity for middle school students to participate in an engineering challenge.
Any amount that you choose to contribute will be greatly appreciated. If this appeal directly to you, the members of the society, is successful in raising money for the Challenges, we will challenge the other Engineering Societies to make an appeal to their general membership for direct contributions. We are hoping to raise enough money to bring back the MEC T-shirt that was given to every student and judge who participated in the program. It was a great way for students to be reminded about the challenges all year long.
As a chapter of the national AIChE organization, the AIChE Maryland Local Section is recognized as a 901(c)(3) non-profit organization by the IRS, so your donation is 100% tax deductible!
