“Process Safety: It’s Not Just for Chemical Plants and Refineries!”

Richard W. Sarnie, CSP, P.E, CRIS, MLIS
Director CCPS Projects – AIChE
In this presentation Mr. Sarnie will discuss lessons learned and re-learned over decades in the manufacturing process industry on preventing and mitigating process safety incidents (Loss of Containment Events), and how these lessons learned can, and should be applied across many types of manufacturing and cold storage operations such as the food, beverage, pharmaceutical and nutraceutical industries.
Rich has over 30 years of risk management & safety experience in the manufacturing, transportation, mining and retail service industries. He has been a presenter and keynote speaker on numerous occasions at local and national risk management & safety conferences and seminars. He is also a presenter on Process Safety and Risk to chemical engineering undergraduates at universities. His topics have included safety, process safety, loss control, captives and creative risk financing techniques. In addition to being AIChE’s Director of CCPS Projects, he is also Staff Director for DIPPR (Design Institute for Physical Properties) & Staff Director for DIERS (Design Institute for Emergency Relief Systems). He also serves as a CCPS Process Safety Boot Camp Instructor. Rich is a professional member of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE). He has a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Lowell (MA), and an MBA from Western New England College.
