Dr. Zuhair Allawi is President Dow Saudi Arabia. In this role, he is responsible for establishing the Dow presence in KSA and is the focal point for government and community relationships, seeking opportunities for new business ventures, and interfacing as appropriate with Dow’s joint ventures in the Kingdom. He also supports key partnerships and technical projects in Saudi Arabia, such as those at the Dow Middle East and Africa R&D Center at King Abdulla’s University of Science and Technology.
Dr. Allawi joined Dow Netherlands in Terneuzen in 1981 in the Middle East and Africa (MEAF) Export department. In 1982, he moved to Dow’s European Headquarters in Switzerland as a Technical Service & Development Engineer in the fabricated products department.
He went on to hold various regional technical, sales, and commercial management assignments in the Middle East with key initial focus on developing Dow’s first significant commercial venture in the region, Styrofoam™ joint venture in the Kingdom.
In 1994, he returned to Dow’s European Headquarters as the MEAF Regional Commercial Manager for polyethylene, polystyrene, and engineering plastics, and later added responsibility for East Europe and Greece. He relocated to Cairo, Egypt in 1998 to lead the Middle East Polyurethanes System House as General Manager.
In 2004, Dr. Allawi became Sales Director, thermosets, polyurethane systems, and epoxy for MEAF and India and moved to Dubai, UAE. He was named Commercial Director for basic and performance chemicals for these regions in 2006. He then was named Senior Commercial Director for Dow’s Performance Materials Division for Middle East & Africa. He assumed his present role as President Dow Saudi Arabia in 2011 and is based in Riyadh. He earned a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Wales, Swansea, UK.
