Tour of Occidental Chemical Corporation’s Sauget, IL Plant for the Manufacture of Trichloroisocyanuric Acid

The product, branded under the name of ACL® 90, is used as a chlorine source for sanitization of swimming pools and spas, potable water treatment applications and industrial applications including cooling towers, air washers, etc. The tour will look at both wet chemical systems and associated solid handling systems used to produce the product.

Date and time of the tour: Wednesday, September 11

4:30 to 5:00 - Arrival at Flexsys Lobby

5:15 - Start brief introductory talk about process followed by tour through OxyChem Plant

PPE requirements for the visit:

At a minimum, long sleeve shirt and closed toed leather shoes are required for the visit. In addition, a hardhat, goggles, hearing protection and an escape respirator are required when in the production building. With the exception of the shoes and shirt, the plant will provide the other safety equipment unless there are special needs.

Other requirements:

No taking of pictures of process buildings or process equipment. No using of cell phones in the process areas.

Directions from St. Louis to the plant (500 Monsanto Avenue; Sauget, IL 62206):

• Take the Poplar Street Bridge, 40, 64, 55, across the Mississippi River.
• While crossing move to the far-right lane, and take the ramp marked Route 3, South.
• After crossing the river and going down the exit ramp go two stop lights to Monsanto Avenue.
• Make a Left turn. After turning Left, the Flexsys Plant will be on your Right. The Oxy facility is within the Flexsys plant site.
• Drive down Monsanto Avenue and where the road turns Left, drive straight into the Flexsys Visitor’s Parking Lot.
• Exit your car and go to the two-story red brick office building. A sign on the building indicates Lobby.
