The Uphill Climb to Address PFAS Contamination: State Perspectives on the PFAS Regulatory Landscape

Stephanie will give an overview of the federal efforts to address PFAS contamination with a focus on EPA’s upcoming national primary drinking water regulation for six PFAS. Insights will be provided into what this new regulation might mean for the current patchwork of state regulations and those states that have yet to set any drinking water standards. Additionally, attendees will learn about the competing priorities for state staff resources and the intricacies of federal funding for PFAS treatment as we look to tackle these chemical substances in 2024 and beyond.

Stephanie Schlea is the Senior Water Policy Advisor for the Association of State Drinking Water Administrators (ASDWA). ASDWA's members are the drinking water program administrators in the 50 states, the five territories, the Navajo Nation, and the District of Columbia. Stephanie has more than eight years of experience in water policy and regulation and leads ASDWA’s work on PFAS, environmental justice, and infrastructure.
