Tasso Ghionis and his son Constantine, presented an overview of Omega Chemicals via ZOOM, with Emily Miller, a senior Clemson University Chemical Engineering student as host. 

Omega Chemical is a locally owned family business that has been in operation since 1973. Its production facility is located on a 17 acre site on US Highway 29 in Spartanburg County, SC. It is a toll producer for batch production of specialty chemicals including Amides, Cyanoethylated Amides, Propylated Amides, Esters, Polyesters, Imidazolines, Imidazoline Quaternaries, Polyamides and more.

Over the years, they have produced materials for the textile, paper, leather and most recently, the personal care industries. Tasso has been with them through their evolution and has expertise in a wide range of chemical processes from simple condensation reactions to quaternizations.

Emily prepared some poll questions basesd on the tour and a $25 gift card will be issued to one lucky winner.

The members present then conducted business of presenting the nominations for officers.  The nominations have been open since then March meeting and a slate of officers proposed by the executive committee was put forth based on those willing to step up and accept the leadership roles from this May meeting (2021) until the next (2022) All positions were unopposed. Following the meeting email ballot was sent to all current members listed on the National roster. Email ballots will be accepted until noon on May 11, 2021.  The results will be posted at the May meeting.

The members present also voted on the format for the May meeting and, based on a ZOOM poll, it was decided that we would seek out an in-person venue for Thursday, May 13.
