Join the Public Affairs and Information Committee (PAIC) in taking the steps to being a sustainable conference attendee!
-
Reusable utensils
- Bring reusable utensils or purchase reuseable utensils so you don’t have to ask for them from the vendor (they only provide if you ask in San Diego per ordinance).
-
Your Reusable Water Bottle and Coffee Mug
- Bring your water bottle and coffee go mug to the conference to refill, to avoid purchasing single use plastic, including plastic water bottles at the conference.
-
Recycle!
- The City of San Diego bans certain single use items but we still need to recycle right! Watch for recycle bins.
-
Use public transit
- San Diego has public transportation options like buses, trolleys, and trains. Choose these over renting a car.
-
Try to buy local:
- Supporting local restaurants and food vendors more likely reduces the environmental impact associated with food transportation.
-
Reduce printed materials
- Opt to use the AIChE app and digital versions of the conference schedule, notes, and handouts.
-
Support green vendors
- When purchasing food or other items at the conference, support vendors who use local, organic, or sustainable products
-
Consider plant-based meals
- If not highly processed, where available, vegetarian or vegan meal options may offer lower microplastic contamination as well as lower carbon footprint compared to similarly processed meat-based meals.
